Scottish Clinical Effectiveness Programme in Reproductive Health - Phase III

Programme role and remit

Audit and Guidelines:
  • To administer the Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths (Scotland)
  • To administer the Scottish Stillbirth and Infant Death Survey (SSBIDS) in partnership with ISD
  • To administer the Scottish Confidential Audit of Severe Maternal Morbidity
  • Initiate one major national topic audit or re-audit annually.

Work in Phase 3 will feature the following agreed priority topics:

  • Teenage Sexual Health
  • Interventions in Maternity Care
  • Investigation and Management of Menorrhagia
  • Microbiology Investigation in Reproductive Healthcare
  • Prepare proposals to SIGN and NHS Quality Improvement Scotland for clinical guidelines or health technology assessments relating to reproductive health

Co-ordination and advisory role

  • To support Expert Advisory Groups on reproductive health topics and conduct implementation and follow-up exercises.
  • To provide support and advice for relevant clinical effectiveness exercises undertaken by reproductive healthcare professionals in Scotland.
  • To build relevant collaborations, networks and partnerships within Scotland and internationally in order to promote the work of SPCERH and learn from the work of others.

Feedback and implementation role

  • To feedback promptly the results of all Programme activities through SPCERH publications, newsletters and website and through publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • To feedback the results of Programme activities, to provide a forum for presentation of clinical effectiveness activities conducted by colleagues, and raise clinicians awareness of clinical effectiveness through national and local meetings, including the annual SPCERH Reproductive Health Forum.

Research role

In collaboration with the Health Services Research Unit and others, undertake research exercises linked to the Programme s core activities, aimed at improving the conduct of clinical audit, guideline implementation and related clinical effectiveness activities.
