Issuing of NICE Technology Appraisal Guidance in Scotland
We work in partnership with NICE to issue its Technology Appraisal Guidance to NHSScotland at the same time as it is issued to the health service in England and Wales. We do not assess the evidence used by NICE in forming its advice, nor 'approve' the NICE Guidance. Instead our comments focus on any implications for NHSScotland arising from the NICE Guidance.
See the NICE work programme for current projects
Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) guidelines
Funded through NHS Quality Improvement Scotland, these guidelines provide recommendations for effective practice in the management of clinical conditions where variations in practice are known to occur and where effective care may not be delivered uniformly throughout Scotland.
See the SIGN guideline development programme for current projects
Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) advice
Funded through and support by NHS Quality Improvement Scotland, SMC advises NHS Boards and their Area Drug and Therapeutics Committees (ADTCs) across Scotland about the status of all newly licensed medicines, all new formulations of existing medicines and any major new indications for established products.
See the SMC work programme for planned and current projects
Managed Clinical Networks
Advice and support in the development of each managed clinical network's Quality Assurance Framework, in accordance with our guidance, followed by formal endorsement of the framework (valid for three years). During the three years' endorsement period, annual reports are reviewed and at its conclusion the revised framework is evaluated.
